Helping sellers and buyers with research since 2002, Anthony and Andrew Sukow officially founded Advanced E-Commerce Research Systems, Inc. ("Terapeak"), in 2004. The company was realized through an idea the brothers had as eBay PowerSellers while attending university, and was launched with help from the University of Victoria, the school at which they studied. Terapeak, based in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada, and San Francisco, California, continues to steadily improve on its products and add to its talented team.

VP Marketing/Chief Marketing Officer

Position type: full time, permanent (based in Redwood City, California)

Job Description:

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the VP Marketing/Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) is responsible for developing and executing a clearly defined marketing strategy in a manner that supports consistent lead and revenue growth and enhances brand equity and awareness. This position is responsible for planning, organizing, staffing, training and managing all marketing functions to achieve Terapeak's objectives of sales growth, profitability and visibility while ensuring a consistent marketing message and position consistent with corporate direction.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Create and manage marketing campaigns to increase subscriber growth, increase retention, and to upsell existing customers
  • Promote campaigns and activities that increase web presence, visitor traffic, and lead generation
  • Understand, track and improve upon key marketing metrics to drive success
  • Proactively identify, develop and drive longer-term marketing and communications strategies and initiatives that will result in increased visibility and profitable growth
  • Produce in-depth market assessment, sales information and customer retention data to define gaps in business strategy and develop recommendations for action based on sound analysis
  • Develop the company's marketing communications and brand strategy, and work with the CEO to establish corporate messaging and positioning
  • Convert business ideas and research into actionable product releases with an emphasis on revenue and performance
  • Collaborate closely with the CEO and other senior management to integrate and align strategies and tactics
  • Work in close conjunction with the Sales organization and own the key messaging points around value proposition and differentiation, including the needs of different regions
  • Work closely with Product Development and Product Management to assist in prioritizing strategic direction and feature/product priorities
  • Accountable for customer retention programs and to suggest value-add incentives to existing subscribers
  • Understand feature use and comprehensively understand how our customers use and value our product
  • Support special projects and marketing initiatives designed to increase sales and enhance Member retention
  • Actively monitor the competitive landscape and position Terapeak products and features "above the noise" through a strategy of thought leadership
  • Speak externally to analysts, customers, trade journalists and conferences on aspects of thought leadership and data driven insights related to eCommerce with the goal of building Terapeak into the "go to" organization for credible eCommerce insights and trends
  • Achieve market share by developing and establishing promotional strategies; implementing advertising
  • Accomplish staff results by communicating job expectations, planning, monitoring, and appraising job results, coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; initiating, coordinating, and enforcing systems, policies and procedures; ensure that staff morale is positive to meet the sales organization's commitments
  • Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed; coordinate and collaborate with other departments and locations within the company in establishing and carrying out responsibilities; develop and maintain a close working relationship with cross functional groups within the company, to provide clear communication of new product and product improvement needs

Qualifications:

  • Experience leading a Marketing department in a subscription-based SaaS business is required
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in progressive Marketing roles at the senior management level
  • Must possess key competencies including strategic vision and analytical skills enhanced by intuitive consumer insights
  • Must have entrepreneurial and innovative DNA, willing to consider the outrageous and respect the pragmatic
  • Must have deep understanding of social media, viral marketing, the Internet and the strategic marketing opportunities they represent

Sales Engineer

Terapeak is seeking a Sales Engineer, for their location in Victoria, B.C or to work remotely from anywhere with Canada or the USA. This is permanent position, with up to 20% travel.

Job Description:

The Sales Engineer, reporting to Director of Sales and working closely with the Sales and Services teams, is responsible for working with enterprise clients to design and deliver custom data solutions from disparate data sources to provide meaningful insight to business and technical users.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Achieve expert level knowledge and understanding of Terapeak's data capabilities and market applications
  • Represent the functionality of existing, enhanced, and/or custom APIs/Data Feeds and integrations internally and externally
  • Deliver specialized technical training and support, which includes the production of supporting materials
  • Work with internal stakeholders to answer/resolve any technical questions/issues faced by prospective or existing customers
  • Provide customer feedback to inform future product and services direction
  • Part of the Sales team that will engage prospective customers in designing and implementing technical solutions
  • Ensure custom engagements align with both customer and Terapeak business needs
  • Prepare work breakdown estimates for custom development and services delivery
  • Lead post-sale integration of products and services
  • Rapid prototype samples and proof of concepts using multiple, disparate data sources (including internal, client and 3rd party)

Desired Knowledge and Skills

  • Strong oral and written communication skills, and ability to clearly and accurately communicate complex and/or technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Extensive experience deriving technical requirements from business needs
  • Strong data knowledge, especially: PostgreSQL/MySQL, NoSQL (Hadoop, MongoDB, Solr)
  • Experienced polyglot generalist in programming languages (Perl, Java, PHP, Python, C)
  • Web application and services development, as implemented in a Linux server environment
  • Knowledge of the E-Commerce landscape, Marketplaces in particular
  • Ability to balance multiple priorities in a dynamic work environment involving multiple stakeholders
  • Strong Analytical and Troubleshooting skills
  • Comfortable working with-in all levels of the organization
  • Past Sales or Customer Service experience an asset

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Engineering with emphasis in data management, or equivalent experience

Business Intelligence Senior Developer

Terapeak is seeking a Business Intelligence Senior Developer, for their location in Victoria, B.C. This is a 4 month contract position with the potential for extension.

Job Description:

The Business Intelligence (BI) Developer is responsible for building business intelligence and reporting infrastructure from disparate data sources to provision meaningful insights to business and operational users.

The BI Developer is also responsible for devising and causing the execution of a data quality strategy to provide unified views and perspectives of dependable, accurate data.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Identify Terapeak's BI requirements from a role perspective by articulating data perspective needs in addition to reporting & KPI tracking needs
  • Lead the evaluation, selection and implementation of a 3rd party BI solution taking into account usage scenarios and integration with existing tools & infrastructure (mobile, desktop, integration with productivity tools such as Office and Salesforce.com)
  • Liaise closely with internal business stakeholders to conduct a BI needs analysis
  • Collaborate with development and IT to ensure a smooth integration of a 3rd Party BI solution
  • Create an accurate and comprehensive inventory of Terapeak's data, data systems, and data storage
  • Work with outside vendor to build a data warehouse based on a keen understanding of data warehouse principles and structured in a way to specifically address Terapeak's reporting and analytic requirements
  • Create unified data schema that is standardized, consistent, clean and integrates data sourced from various on premise and cloud systems
  • Write scripts to pull data from disparate sources into the data warehouse

Required Knowledge & Skills:

  • Advanced data management knowledge, especially: PostgreSQL/MySQL, NoSQL (Hadoop, MongoDB) and key/value pairing (Memcache), Data modeling, Data Warehousing
  • Extensive experience deriving technical requirements from business needs
  • Strong knowledge of Business Intelligence vendors and their strengths and weaknesses
  • Fluency in BI-related terminology and Best Practices backed by a deep understanding of the appropriate application of BI functionality for specific user workflows
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, and ability to clearly and accurately communicate complex and/or technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Strong Analytical and Troubleshooting skills
  • Comfortable working with-in all levels of the organization
  • Fearless approach to work, ability to take ownership and lead cross-departmental initiatives

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Engineering with emphasis in data management, or a related field
  • Demonstrated detailed knowledge of BI areas including ETL design, analytics and reporting
  • Demonstrated experience developing and maintaining a Data Warehousing solution using industry standard ETL tools
  • Experience working in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment
